He’s currently serving as Principal of the US NIH Clinical Research Center with Global MD Organization, Executive Director of the Board of Directors with Global MD Organization, and Chief Representative of Global MD Organization (China) Office. Since 2008, Professor Shi Zhanxiang has been devoted to carrying out clinical research work and education training projects in China and other Asian regions, with the goal of placing China’s clinical research initiatives at the same level of international initiatives.
In his speech, Professor Shi Zhanxiang will introduce the philosophy of translational medicine, the explorations and practices of the US National Institutes of Health concerning clinical and translational medicine, as well as such contents as the Sino-US clinical and translational medicine international cooperation.
Translational Research is one hot topic in today’s medical research. NIH, as the origin of this philosophy, defines it as “the whole process from discovering fundamental researches to improving the patients’ health conditions”, with the mode being “translation from microscope to the market”. The core of translational research is to transfer the fundamental research results under the microscope to medical application or direct improvement of the medical service market. Professor Shi Zhanxiang proposed to establish the clinical and translational medicine mode and road map in line with China’s medical research status and development demands, and actively set up the platform of Sino-US translational science and biological medicine research exchange and cooperation.
